Enugu Police Deny Reported Attack on DIG Frank Mba’s Residence
By Erewunmi Peace
The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that gunmen attacked the country home of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Frank Mba in Ezimo, Udenu Local Government Area.
Earlier reports had alleged that armed men stormed Mba’s residence and killed a police officer on duty. However, in a statement released on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson described the claim as misleading and inaccurate.
According to the police, what occurred was an armed robbery incident within the Ezimo community, during which a policeman on duty was shot and later died while receiving treatment in the hospital.
The statement clarified:
“There was no attack on the residence of DIG Frank Mba as reported in some quarters. What happened was a robbery incident in the area. Our operatives responded swiftly to the distress call, engaged the hoodlums, and restored normalcy.”
The Command urged members of the public to disregard what it termed “sensational reports” linking the incident to DIG Mba’s house, while assuring that investigations are ongoing to apprehend those behind the robbery.
DIG Frank Mba, who currently serves in the Nigeria Police Force, is a former Force Public Relations Officer.
