In a continued effort to promote climate awareness and sustainability in Nigerian schools, Dr. Adetola Ariyike Salau, the Special Adviser on Education to the Kwara State Governor, is reportedly set to launch a Climate Change Programme in Kwara State on July 21, 2025.
According to a report shared by Newsbulletin Nigeria via Facebook, the programme will include the inauguration of a Conservation Club, aimed at educating schoolchildren on environmental protection, climate literacy, and sustainability practices.
While official government channels and major news outlets have yet to confirm the event, the initiative aligns with Dr. Salau’s previous environmental advocacy. During COP28 in Dubai, she made headlines by announcing Kwara State’s plans to introduce climate education into the school curriculum, reinforcing the state’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“We are equipping our learners with the knowledge and skills to become environmental stewards,” Dr. Salau said at the time.
The anticipated launch in Ilorin is expected to include school officials, environmental advocates, and members of the state’s education ministry.
A Growing Trend in Environmental Education
The introduction of school-based conservation clubs reflects a broader trend across Nigeria to address climate change through education and youth engagement. Kwara State is one of the few states actively implementing structured climate literacy programs at the grassroots level.
More details about the July 21 event are expected to be released by the Kwara State Ministry of Education or Dr. Salau’s media team in the coming days.
