APC Dismisses Aregbesola’s Claim That ADC Will Take Over Aso Rock, Lagos in 2027

By Erewunmi Peace

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as an “empty boast” the recent claim by former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will take over the presidency and Lagos State Government House in the 2027 elections.

Aregbesola, now the interim national secretary of the ADC, had declared that the party was prepared to unseat the ruling APC both at the federal level and in Lagos State, a stronghold of the party since the return of democracy in 1999.

Reacting to the statement, the Lagos State chapter of the APC said Aregbesola’s remarks were unrealistic and politically self-destructive. The party noted that Lagos remains firmly under APC’s control and accused the former Osun governor of attempting to stay relevant by making sensational comments.

“His claim that the ADC will dislodge APC in Lagos and at the federal level in 2027 is nothing but wishful thinking,” the APC spokesperson said. “The people of Lagos know where their future lies, and it is certainly not with Aregbesola’s party.”

Political observers say the spat reflects growing political realignments ahead of 2027, with opposition figures seeking to build momentum against the APC. However, analysts also note that breaking APC’s dominance in Lagos, and winning the presidency, would be an uphill task for any new coalition.
