Arise News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu Killed in Abuja Armed Robbery

Tragedy struck the Nigerian media industry on Monday as Arise News confirmed the death of one of its anchors, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, following an armed robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.

In an official statement, the television network described the incident as a devastating loss, adding that security agencies have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.

“With deep sorrow and shock, we announce the tragic passing of our beloved anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who lost her life during a robbery at her Abuja home. We are cooperating fully with the police as they investigate this heartbreaking incident,” the statement read.

Maduagwu, fondly called “Sommie,” was born on December 26, 1995. She joined Arise News as a broadcaster, where she quickly became a familiar face to viewers across Nigeria and beyond.

Police authorities have yet to release an official statement on the suspects involved, but sources confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

Her untimely death has sparked widespread grief among colleagues, friends, and viewers, with many taking to social media to mourn her passing and demand justice.

Armed robbery and violent crimes have remained a recurring challenge in Nigeria’s capital despite increased security patrols. Maduagwu’s death highlights growing concerns about the safety of residents in Abuja.

Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu (1995–2025) was a rising star in Nigerian broadcast journalism, known for her eloquence, professionalism, and passion for storytelling.
