Atiku Abubakar Quietly Quits PDP After 2023 Defeat — Anenih Reveals

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly withdrawn from active participation in the party, following his defeat in the last general elections.
This revelation was made by former Minister of Women Affairs, Josephine Anenih, during a live interview on Channels Television. Anenih, a respected PDP chieftain, disclosed that Atiku has not been attending party meetings and has shown no visible involvement in the party’s affairs since the 2023 elections.
“We reached out to him several times. Even the women of the PDP Board of Trustees wrote him a letter encouraging him to return and show leadership. But since the election, he’s been absent — physically and in spirit,” Anenih stated.
Anenih’s remarks followed the circulation of a resignation letter, reportedly signed by Atiku and dated July 14, 2025. The letter, addressed to his ward chairman in Adamawa State, cited “irreconcilable differences” with the party leadership and dissatisfaction with its direction as reasons for his exit.
Atiku’s silent disengagement from the PDP has sparked discussions about the state of internal party politics and leadership struggles. His absence is seen by many observers as a significant loss, given his status as a long-time political heavyweight and consistent PDP presidential contender.
This development raises questions about the future of the PDP and the readiness of its leadership to reposition the party ahead of future elections.
As of press time, Atiku Abubakar has yet to issue an official public statement confirming his resignation or outlining his next political move.
