Benue: Governor Alia Nominates Eight New Commissioners

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has submitted the names of eight commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. This marks the first phase of the reconstitution of his cabinet following the recent dissolution of the State Executive Council.

The nomination list, submitted on August 1, 2025, includes both technocrats and political figures, reflecting a blend of experience and new energy as the Alia administration continues its governance agenda.

The Nominees Are:

  1. Hon. Theresa Odachi Ikwue
  2. Hon. Dr. Benjamin Ashaver
  3. Hon. Dr. Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa
  4. Hon. Dr. Peter Oboh Egbodo
  5. Dr. Yangien Timothy Ornguga
  6. Hon. Denis Iyaighgba
  7. Hon. James Dwem
  8. Dr. Paul Ejeh Ogwuche

According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, this is the first batch of nominations. He assured that a second list of commissioner-nominees will be forwarded to the Assembly within the next few days .

“The reconstitution of the executive council is being done in phases to ensure quality selection and service delivery,” Kula stated.

Governor Alia had earlier dissolved the previous cabinet, retaining only his Chief of Staff, Barr. Moses Atagher. The decision was seen as a strategic move to inject fresh ideas and efficiency into his administration.

The State Assembly is expected to begin screening the nominees this week. If confirmed, the new commissioners will be sworn in and assigned portfolios to resume duties immediately.
