Governor Umoh takes full control of APC structure in Akwa Ibom.

In what appears to be a growing realignment of political forces in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno is being increasingly recognized as a central figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his high-profile defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Though no official statement has yet been released by Senate President Godswill Akpabio formally declaring Governor Eno the political leader of the APC in the state, internal party activities and recent events suggest a quiet consolidation of power around the governor.
On Friday, July 11, 2025, a closed-door APC stakeholders’ meeting was reportedly held at the Akwa Ibom State Government House in Uyo. Sources within the party claim that the meeting—attended by the full state structure of the APC—was convened to foster unity and build momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development follows Governor Eno’s visible participation in major APC functions, including the South-South APC Stakeholders’ Summit in Benin City, Edo State, and his grand reception into the party on June 6, 2025, where national party chairman Abdullahi Ganduje described him as “the leader of APC in Akwa Ibom.”
While Senate President Akpabio has not issued a public declaration on the matter, he has openly praised Governor Eno for embracing the APC’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and fostering inclusive governance. Analysts say this could mark a significant shift in the political balance of the state, which has long been a PDP stronghold.
If confirmed, the elevation of Governor Eno as a top APC leader in Akwa Ibom could redefine the state’s political terrain and boost the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections
