Defection: I’m Still Consulting, Osun PDP Ready to Follow Me – Governor Adeleke

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has confirmed that he is still in consultation over his political future amid increasing speculation about his potential defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking after a high-level meeting with Osun PDP leaders on Saturday, Adeleke revealed that the party’s leadership in the state had expressed strong support for him and unanimously declared readiness to follow him wherever he decides to go politically.

“I am still consulting with critical stakeholders and leaders across the country,” the governor stated. “But I am proud to say that the PDP in Osun State is solidly behind me. They’ve pledged to follow me, no matter the political direction I choose.”

The closed-door meeting, held in Osogbo, was attended by members of the PDP caucus, including party executives, elected officials, and key grassroots mobilizers. Following the deliberation, a vote of confidence was passed on the governor’s leadership and performance since taking office.

In a joint statement after the meeting, the party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Governor Adeleke, describing him as “a transformational leader” who has “redefined governance in Osun State.”

“We stand firmly with our governor. His performance in office speaks volumes, and we are ready to go wherever he goes,” one party chieftain said.

The development comes amid ongoing rumors that Governor Adeleke may join another political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, the governor emphasized that no final decision has been made and assured that consultations are ongoing with national and regional allies.

Governor Adeleke, who assumed office in 2022 under the PDP platform, has earned praise for his infrastructural projects, civil service reforms, and digital economy initiatives in Osun State. However, recent internal rifts and broader party dynamics at the national level have reportedly influenced his decision to consider alternative political options.

For now, the political landscape in Osun remains watchful, as stakeholders within and outside the PDP await Adeleke’s final move.
