Ekiti NSCDC Officers in ₦5m Extortion Scandal

By Erewunmi Peace

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been hit by a fresh scandal as some of its officers in Ekiti State have been accused of extorting ₦5.2 million from travelers.

The allegation surfaced in a viral social media post claiming that young men traveling from Ado-Ekiti to Akure were stopped and coerced into parting with millions of naira.

Reacting to the outcry, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, ordered an immediate probe into the matter. The Commandant-General of NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has also directed that the officers allegedly involved be detained and moved to the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.

According to the NSCDC leadership, the case will be handled by the disciplinary committee, and if the officers are found guilty, they will face sanctions in line with the Public Service Rules.

The development has sparked outrage among Nigerians, who continue to call for accountability and transparency within the nation’s security agencies.

As of now, investigations are ongoing, and the identities of the officers have not yet been made public.
