Gov. Buni’s Aide Debunks Defection Rumour, Says “It’s an Empty Speculation”

By Erewunmi Peace

The media aide to Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has officially debunked widespread rumours that his principal is planning to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Addressing the media in Damaturu on Tuesday, July 23, the aide, Mamman Mohammed, described the defection claims as baseless, false, and a wild dream by those peddling misinformation.

“This is an empty speculation. It’s a wild dream of the author and those circulating it,” Mohammed said.
“Governor Mai Mala Buni is not only a loyal member of the APC but a strong pillar of the party nationally and in the North-East.”

The defection rumour spread after a viral report suggested that Buni, a two-term governor and former caretaker chairman of the APC, was finalizing arrangements to join the ADC. However, the governor’s team has made it clear that there is no such plan and reaffirmed Buni’s unwavering commitment to the APC.

Political Context

Mai Mala Buni has been instrumental in APC’s consolidation across the northern region. His leadership as chairman of the party’s caretaker committee in 2020-2021 was pivotal during the transition period before the 2023 elections.

The recent rumour sparked mixed reactions online and within political circles, prompting swift clarification from the governor’s camp.

Governor Buni remains firmly within the APC, and his team has warned the public to disregard fake news designed to stir political confusion.
