“I’m Ready to Serve” — IBB’s Son Denies Rejecting Tinubu’s Appointment

By Erewunmi Peace

Mohammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian Head of State Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has publicly dismissed claims that he rejected President Bola Tinubu’s appointment as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

The clarification comes after a letter allegedly bearing his name and signature began circulating online, claiming he declined the appointment. However, Babangida swiftly discredited the letter, describing it as fake, forged, and politically motivated.

In a statement released by his media office, Babangida reaffirmed his commitment to national service, stating:

“I am ready to serve as the Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture and contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria’s agricultural sector.”

His team pointed out discrepancies in the viral letter, including an incorrect phone number and a signature that does not match Babangida’s. The presidency has also confirmed that Babangida accepted the role and described the letter as a desperate attempt to spread misinformation.

“The document in circulation is not only fake but clearly the handiwork of mischief makers bent on creating unnecessary tension,” the statement added.

The Bank of Agriculture is a crucial institution in Nigeria’s quest for food security and agricultural advancement. Babangida’s acceptance of the role is seen by many as a significant addition to the Tinubu administration’s efforts to reform and strengthen the sector.

This development underscores the growing trend of misinformation targeting public figures and highlights the importance of verifying news before public dissemination.
