Flags Off Construction of Itawure-Okemesi Road

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, on Thursday, disclosed that his administration has fulfilled over 90 percent of the promises made to Ekiti people during his election campaign.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the Itawure–Okemesi road construction, Governor Oyebanji revealed that his government has restored electricity to over 30 communities that had been in darkness for nearly 20 years. He reaffirmed his commitment to infrastructure development as a cornerstone of his administration’s efforts to improve the lives of Ekiti residents.

The governor explained that the Itawure–Okemesi road project marks the first phase of a larger road development plan, with the second phase extending construction to Ikoro, Ipoti, Ijero, and Iloro. According to him, the road holds significant economic and security importance, enhancing investment prospects and supporting the state’s developmental agenda.

“Today’s projects cover Okemesi, Ido-Ile, and Efon Alaaye. As we flag off this project, we are also embarking on the construction of the Ido-Ile–Okemesi road and the Alanaka road in Efon. These were my campaign promises to the people,” he stated.Governor Oyebanji further remarked, “When we marked two years in office, I reviewed my book of campaign promises. I can confidently say, before God and man, that I have delivered on more than 90 percent of what I promised Ekiti people.“

There is no community where we have not fulfilled our commitments, whether in infrastructure, welfare, or party development. Regarding electricity, I am committed to ensuring that Okemesi benefits from stable power supply. A team will be sent in January to provide recommendations on achieving this.

“Over the past two years, we have provided electricity to more than 30 communities in Ekiti State, some of which had been without power for 20 years.”

The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Sola Adebayo, described the Itawure–Okemesi road project as a significant milestone in Governor Oyebanji’s drive to attract investors and foster community development. He emphasized that roads are more than infrastructure—they are lifelines that connect people, facilitate trade, and open doors to economic opportunities.

In goodwill messages, the Owaoye of Okemesi, Oba Gbadebo Adedeji; President of the Okemesi Improvement Union, Chief Nathaniel Olaoye; and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Wale Fapohunda (SAN), expressed gratitude to the governor for prioritizing their community in his developmental agenda.

Other dignitaries present included members of the State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, and special advisers to the governor, including Mr. Yinka Oyebode and Hon. Femi Ajayi.

Former Political Adviser to the President, Chief Akin Oshuntokun, also graced the occasion.
