Lagos Police Recover 36 Stolen Vehicles, Urge Musician to Return ₦250m Porsche

By Erewunmi Peace

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the recovery of 36 stolen vehicles, including a luxury vintage Porsche 911 valued at approximately ₦250 million, during a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, the recovered vehicles include cars stolen both locally and internationally. The police revealed that several of the cars were traced back to foreign countries, including some reported missing in the United States and the United Kingdom.

“This is a major breakthrough in our sustained effort to crack down on trans-border car theft syndicates operating across Lagos and other states,” CP Jimoh said.

Musician Linked to Stolen Vehicle

The police also revealed that a popular Nigerian musician may have unknowingly purchased one of the stolen vehicles—a red version of the vintage Porsche 911. While the musician’s identity has not been officially disclosed, authorities have publicly urged him to voluntarily return the vehicle to avoid legal consequences.

“We advise the individual in possession of the red Porsche to come forward and cooperate with the police. Failure to do so may result in arrest,” CP Jimoh warned.

The Vehicles on Display

During the press event, the police showcased several recovered luxury cars, SUVs, and sedans, some of which were recovered from auto dealers in Lagos and neighboring states. Among them were:

Porsche 911 (White) — Valued at ₦250 million

Lexus RX350

Toyota Prado

Honda Accord

Mercedes-Benz models

The police stated that investigations are still ongoing to trace the original owners of these vehicles and to apprehend members of the car theft syndicates.

Vehicle theft and smuggling remain serious challenges in Nigeria’s urban centers. Syndicates often alter chassis numbers, forge documents, or route stolen vehicles through car dealerships, making it difficult to detect their origin.

This latest development is being hailed as a significant stride toward tackling organized auto theft and protecting unsuspecting buyers from fraudulent transactions.
