Laide Bakare under fire for introducing her underage girl to clubbing and alcohol

Nigerian actress Laide Bakare has addressed the controversy surrounding her recent comments about taking her 17-year-old daughter, Simi, to a nightclub — a statement that sparked widespread criticism on social media.

The actress initially drew backlash after a short video clip circulated online, in which she appeared to say she introduced her daughter to clubbing and alcohol. The comment quickly ignited debate about responsible parenting and the influence of celebrities on their children.

Reacting to the uproar, Bakare released a clarification through her Instagram page, insisting that her words had been taken out of context. According to her, she only meant that she introduced her daughter to the club environment, not to alcohol or drinking.

“I never said I introduced my daughter to alcohol. I only meant she accompanied me to the club for exposure and to understand nightlife in a safe way,” she explained.

The actress also emphasized that her intention was to strengthen her bond with her daughter, adding that parents should guide their children through experiences rather than leaving them to learn from peers.

Public reactions remain divided. While some Nigerians praised Bakare for being open-minded and protective, others described her decision as “reckless” and a poor example of parenting.

Laide Bakare, a veteran in Nollywood, is known for her roles in Yoruba movies and her vibrant personality on social media. The recent incident highlights the tension between parental freedom and public morality in Nigeria’s entertainment culture.
