The mother of a Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) student, identified as Olawale Ayomide, has spoken out after reports surfaced that her son and other students were allegedly forced by police officers in Ogun State to record false confessions denying an extortion incident.
According to verified reports by Punch and Legit.ng, the incident occurred when a group of students were stopped by officers attached to the Igbeba Police Division, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. The officers allegedly accused them of being internet fraudsters, searched their phones, and demanded money to “settle” the case.
After negotiations, the students reportedly transferred ₦99,000 to the officers. One of the policemen allegedly forgot his official cap inside the student’s car — a key piece of evidence that later went viral online.
Speaking in reaction to the ordeal, Olawale’s mother expressed deep concern, saying she “felt bad” upon learning that her son and his friends were allegedly recorded and pressured to lie against themselves to protect the officers involved.
Following media attention, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the policemen linked to the case have been detained pending an internal investigation. The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, stated that the command “does not tolerate misconduct” and that appropriate disciplinary actions would follow after the probe.
Human rights advocates have since called for transparency and justice for the affected students, emphasizing the need for accountability within the police system.
As of press time, the investigation is ongoing, and the Ogun State Police Command has not released further updates on the status of the detained officers.
