No Evidence Professor Joash Amupitan Was Part of Tinubu’s 2023 Election Legal Team

Claims circulating on social media alleging that Professor Joash Amupitan, the recently nominated Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was a member of President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 election legal team have been found to lack credible evidence.
A review of official tribunal documents, court records, and credible media reports shows no record of Professor Amupitan’s involvement in the legal defense team that represented President Tinubu during the 2023 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
Fact-checking platforms, including TELL Magazine, report that while Amupitan is a respected legal scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), his name does not appear among the lawyers officially listed for Tinubu’s legal representation — a team led by Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, and other prominent attorneys.
Additionally, Professor Amupitan’s professional and academic profiles make no reference to participation in the 2023 election petition proceedings.
The claim appears to have originated from unverified social media posts and online discussions following his nomination as INEC Chairman. As of now, no official or documentary proof supports the assertion.
There is no verifiable evidence that Professor Joash Amupitan was part of President Tinubu’s 2023 election legal team.
