Osun LG Workers Set to Resume Monday, Urge APC Reinstated Chairmen to Prioritise Welfare

By Erewunmi Peace

Local government workers in Osun State have announced plans to resume duties on Monday, after several months of inactivity due to disputes over council administration.

The workers, operating under the Association of Concerned Local Government Workers of Osun State, said their resumption is in line with the recent reinstatement of All Progressives Congress (APC) council chairmen. They urged the new leadership to prioritise the welfare of staff and ensure prompt payment of salaries.

In a statement, the group stressed that staff morale had suffered during the prolonged standoff and called on the APC chairmen to rebuild trust by focusing on worker welfare and development at the grassroots level.

However, tensions remain as the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) leadership in Osun insisted it had not formally directed members to resume duties, citing unresolved issues. Some workers accused union leaders of “betrayal,” vowing to return to work under the new chairmen regardless.

Reports also suggest that the reinstated chairmen may conduct a staff audit to verify the actual workforce before commencing salary payments.

The Federal Government has meanwhile denied claims of releasing withheld local government funds directly to the APC chairmen, further complicating the financial and political dimensions of the matter.

As of press time, the situation remains tense, with observers noting that Monday’s resumption could shape the next phase of local government administration in Osun State.
