The Osun State Police Command has arrested six suspected cult members in connection with a violent clash at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, which left at least two students injured.

According to police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola, the Anti-Cultism Unit acted swiftly after reports of fighting on campus on Monday, September 8. The suspects were arrested with weapons and motorcycles allegedly used during the attack.

“The suspects have been taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing to identify their accomplices and bring them to justice,” Opalola said.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the confrontation began during morning hours near the institution’s lecture halls, sparking panic among students and staff. The clash, believed to be between rival cult groups, disrupted academic activities as security operatives worked to restore calm.

The injured students are currently receiving medical attention, and authorities say no lives were lost in the incident.

The Osun Police Command has assured residents and the polytechnic community of heightened security, warning that those involved in cultism will face the full wrath of the law.
