Professor Joseph Ayodele Appointed as New Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University

Ekiti State University (EKSU) has appointed Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele as its new Vice-Chancellor, following the approval of Governor Biodun Oyebanji. His appointment took effect from August 20, 2024, succeeding Professor Edward Olanipekun.
Professor Ayodele is a distinguished educationist, economist, and scholar with a remarkable academic and administrative career. He holds a First Class Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in Economics, which he obtained in 1992 from the former Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti—now Ekiti State University.
A Proud Alumnus Returns
Though several alumni have played key roles in the university over the years, Ayodele’s appointment as Vice-Chancellor has drawn attention due to his deep roots in the institution as a former student. While not the first alumnus to hold the position, he is certainly among the few who have returned to lead their alma mater at the highest level.“
His track record in academia, leadership, and education policy made him the standout choice,” a university spokesperson noted.
Academic Excellence & Service
Professor Ayodele has served in various academic and administrative capacities across tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Known for his research in educational planning, economics of education, and policy development, he has published widely and supervised numerous postgraduate theses.
His appointment is seen as a major boost for the university, as stakeholders look forward to progressive reforms under his leadership.“
We believe Professor Ayodele will strengthen the academic culture, improve infrastructure, and reposition EKSU for global competitiveness,” said the Ekiti State Commissioner for Education.
