PSC Promotes 12 CPs to AIGs, 226 Other Senior Police Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 238 senior officers, including 12 Commissioners of Police (CPs) elevated to the prestigious rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
The decision was made during the Commission’s 24th plenary meeting, held between Tuesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 18, 2025, and was chaired by PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd).
In a statement released to the media, the PSC disclosed that the promotions covered a wide range of senior positions within the Nigerian Police Force and were based on merit, seniority, and performance, following a competitive process that included written examinations and interviews.
Promotions Breakdown:
12 CPs promoted to AIGs
16 Deputy Commissioners promoted to Commissioners of Police
27 Assistant Commissioners promoted to Deputy Commissioners
145 Chief Superintendents promoted to Assistant Commissioners
29 Superintendents promoted to Chief Superintendents
38 Deputy Superintendents promoted to Superintendents
The Commission also noted that one Assistant Commissioner was not promoted due to absence from the scheduled promotion exercise.
PSC Speaks
PSC Chairman Argungu emphasized the Commission’s renewed commitment to transparency and excellence in police administration.
“We are proud of the integrity of this process and confident that these promotions will further motivate officers to serve with diligence and professionalism,” he said.
The interviews were conducted under the supervision of DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), with participation from representatives of the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Federal Character Commission.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring that only deserving officers rise through the ranks, in alignment with global best practices and in support of improved national security.
