The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of more than 400 senior police officers and appointed a new Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to represent the North-East geopolitical zone.
In a statement issued by the PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission confirmed the appointment of AIG Dankwara Mohammed as the new DIG, replacing DIG Zanna Ibrahim, who recently retired from the Nigeria Police Force after years of meritorious service.
The newly appointed DIG will oversee police operations in the North-East and contribute to strengthening security efforts across the region.
According to the Commission, the promotions cut across various ranks, including Commissioners of Police (CPs), Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). The PSC noted that the promotions were based on merit, performance, and years of dedicated service to the nation.
PSC Chairman Dr. Solomon Arase, a former Inspector General of Police, congratulated the promoted officers and urged them to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity in their duties. He emphasized that the Commission remains committed to improving police welfare and ensuring that promotions are guided by fairness and competence.
“These promotions are a reflection of our continued effort to reward hard work and dedication. We expect the newly elevated officers to justify the confidence reposed in them,” Arase stated.
The PSC also reiterated its commitment to enhancing the efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force through regular training, transparent promotion processes, and improved oversight.
The newly promoted officers are expected to resume their new roles immediately as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
