Reckless Drivers Kill Five FRSC Personnel on Duty

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of five of its officers who were killed in September 2025 by reckless motorists while carrying out their duties across different parts of the country.
According to the FRSC, the tragic incidents occurred in multiple locations, including Ekiti, Ogun, Taraba, Jos By-Pass, and Obollo Afor, underscoring the dangers faced daily by road safety officers in the line of duty.
FRSC spokespersons described the deaths as a devastating loss to the corps and the nation, warning that such acts of recklessness would no longer be tolerated. The agency vowed to work with law enforcement authorities to ensure that drivers responsible for the killings are prosecuted.
The Corps also appealed to motorists to exercise caution, stressing that the lives of road safety officers — who dedicate themselves to protecting Nigerian roads — should not be needlessly cut short.
Road users and civil society groups have since expressed solidarity with the FRSC, urging stricter penalties for reckless driving and improved safety measures for officers deployed on highways.
This latest tragedy adds to growing concerns about road safety in Nigeria, where high accident rates are often attributed to dangerous driving, speeding, and non-compliance with traffic regulations.
