Retired DIG Parry Osayande Dies in Benin, Hours Before 89th Birthday

Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Parry Benjamin Osayande has passed away in Benin City, Edo State. He died just hours before his 89th birthday.
Osayande, a highly respected officer, served as DIG of the Nigeria Police Force and later as Chairman of the Police Service Commission, where he contributed to reforms aimed at improving policing standards across the country.
Born in 1936, he was widely recognized for his dedication to service and his principled stance on law enforcement and public security matters. His death marks the end of an era for many who regarded him as one of Nigeria’s finest police officers.
Tributes have begun pouring in from across the nation, with colleagues, government officials, and community leaders describing him as a disciplined, courageous, and patriotic Nigerian.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
