Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Resumes at Senate After Six-Month Suspension

By Erewunmi Peace

Kogi Central lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has officially resumed plenary duties at the Nigerian Senate after serving a six-month suspension.

The Senator, who was suspended in March 2025 over alleged misconduct and defiance of Senate rules, made her return to the Red Chamber on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Reports from the National Assembly indicate that she took her seat during plenary, marking her first appearance since her disciplinary action earlier in the year.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension, which stemmed from allegations of insubordination and refusal to sit in her assigned seat, was one of the most controversial in the 10th Senate. Her supporters had described the move as politically motivated, while the Senate leadership insisted it was a necessary disciplinary measure.

With the expiration of her suspension period in September, the lawmaker was cleared to resume legislative duties. Her return was met with a mix of applause and quiet acknowledgment from colleagues.

Before her suspension, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was known for her vocal stance on transparency, women’s rights, and social justice issues.

Observers say her return could reenergize debates in the Senate, especially on matters of governance, accountability, and inclusion.
