Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Storms National Assembly Amid Suspension Dispute

By Erewunmi Peace

There was palpable tension at the National Assembly complex today as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, attempted to gain entry into the Senate chambers despite her suspension by the Red Chamber earlier this year.

The senator, accompanied by her supporters and aides, arrived at the complex Monday morning but was denied access by security operatives stationed at the gates. Eyewitnesses reported that Senator Natasha challenged the security personnel, insisting on her right to enter and resume legislative duties.

This confrontation follows a Federal High Court judgment delivered on July 4, 2025, which declared her suspension as lacking legal weight and described the Senate’s actions as advisory rather than binding. However, the Senate leadership has maintained that no binding court order exists requiring her reinstatement.

“I was duly elected by the people of Kogi Central. I have a mandate to fulfill and I will not be intimidated,” Senator Natasha reportedly told journalists at the scene.

Videos from the National Assembly premises show supporters chanting in solidarity while security forces held firm against any attempt to breach the gate.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate in March over alleged “unparliamentary conduct.” Critics have since called the suspension politically motivated.

As of the time of reporting, there is no official statement from the Senate President’s office, but sources indicate that the Senate may deliberate on the matter behind closed doors later today.
