Veteran Music Producer Femi Lasode Dies at 69

Renowned Nigerian music producer, filmmaker, and cultural icon, Obafemi “Femi” Lasode, has passed away. He died on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the age of 69, just a few months shy of his 70th birthday.
The news of his passing was confirmed by Dr. Tee Mac Omatshola Iseli, former President of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN), who described Lasode as “a great music producer, film producer, and publisher.”
Born on December 4, 1955, Lasode was best known for his groundbreaking work in the Nigerian creative industry, most notably the production of the acclaimed epic movie “Sango” — a cultural masterpiece that showcased Nigeria’s Yoruba mythology to global audiences. He was also the founder of Afrika ’n Vogue/Even-Ezra Studios, a leading multimedia production outfit in Nigeria.

Lasode was not just a filmmaker but a passionate cultural archivist who played a crucial role in promoting African heritage through media and the arts. His body of work contributed significantly to shaping modern Nigerian storytelling in film and music.
