The Oluomo of Ile-Ife, Chief Gbenga Owolabi, has died at the age of 65, throwing the ancient city and the people of Osun State into mourning.

Reports indicate that the respected traditional title holder passed away after a brief illness. His death has since been confirmed by community sources and has drawn tributes from government officials, traditional leaders, and residents of Ile-Ife.

Chief Owolabi was widely regarded as a prominent figure in the socio-cultural affairs of Ile-Ife. As the Oluomo, he played a significant role in community leadership, youth engagement, and the preservation of Yoruba traditions. His influence extended beyond the town, earning him respect across Osun State.

Following the news of his death, condolences have continued to pour in from different quarters. Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, described the late Oluomo as a committed community leader whose contributions to peace and development would be remembered.

Residents of Ile-Ife also expressed shock and sadness, describing Chief Owolabi as approachable, firm, and deeply committed to the welfare of his people.
