ISWAP Fighters Allegedly Relocate Following Leaks of U.S. Surveillance Flights

By Erewunmi Peace

Reports suggest that Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters may have relocated from some of their strongholds after alleged leaks of U.S. surveillance flights over the Lake Chad region surfaced on social media.

According to these reports, a U.S. reconnaissance aircraft conducted operations over insurgent-held areas in Borno State, Nigeria. The leaked flight paths are said to have compromised operational secrecy, prompting a possible repositioning of ISWAP fighters.

Security analysts warn that the proliferation of sensitive information on social media could inadvertently aid insurgent groups by revealing their movements and strategies.

Caution: While the reports have circulated widely on news blogs and social media, there is currently no independent verification from official military or government sources confirming the flights or the fighters’ relocation. Analysts describe the claims as plausible but unconfirmed.
