By Erewunmi Peace

In a shocking early-morning attack, armed bandits abducted 25 female students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, Kebbi State. The attack occurred around 4 a.m. local time.

According to initial reports, the bandits also killed the school’s Vice-Principal, who reportedly tried to protect the students. Several other students and staff narrowly escaped during the raid.

The Kebbi State Police and other security agencies were immediately deployed, launching a manhunt to rescue the abducted students. Authorities confirmed that 24 of the 25 schoolgirls have since been rescued, with one reportedly escaping on her own.

Residents described the scene as chaotic, with many fleeing to nearby areas for safety. The attack has reignited national concerns over banditry and insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest, where schools and communities have increasingly become targets of armed gangs.

Government officials and community leaders have urged vigilance and cooperation with security agencies, while emphasizing the need for better protection of schools and students.

This incident is part of a growing pattern of attacks in Kebbi and neighboring states, highlighting the urgent need for sustained security measures to protect vulnerable communities from armed banditry.
