Nnamdi Kanu Transferred From DSS Detention to Sokoto Custodial Centre

By Erewunmi Peace

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly been moved from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja to a correctional facility in Sokoto State.

The development was revealed by Kanu’s former legal representative, Aloy Ejimakor, who stated that the transfer took place on Thursday. According to him, relocating Kanu to Sokoto places him far from his legal team, family members, and well-wishers, making access more difficult.

Ejimakor described the move as “sudden and shocking,” stressing that it raises serious concerns about Kanu’s health, safety, and legal rights. He also criticized the authorities for allegedly failing to notify the defense counsel before executing the transfer.

Multiple media platforms have reported the development, noting that the transfer may be connected to security concerns surrounding the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, where high-profile inmates are usually kept.

However, as of the time of publication, official confirmation from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) is yet to be released, and the exact facility in Sokoto where Kanu is being held has not been publicly verified.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in government custody for several years over charges bordering on terrorism, secessionist activities, and unlawful possession of firearms. His trial and detention have continued to generate national and international attention.

Further updates will be provided as more verified information becomes available.
