The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 37-year-old ex-convict and three other suspects over a consignment of cocaine concealed in liquid starch sachets and bound for the United Kingdom.
According to the agency, operatives uncovered the illicit drugs during a routine inspection at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. The cocaine was carefully hidden inside sealed sachets of liquid starch in an attempt to evade detection.
Three cargo handlers identified as Jubrin Firdausi Hassana, Kuku Daniel Oluwasegun, and Igwe Chioma Jane were arrested while processing the shipment. Further investigation led to the arrest of Nwobodo Chidiebere Basil, an ex-convict believed to be the mastermind behind the operation.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Nwobodo Chidiebere Basil, an ex-convict believed to be the mastermind behind the operation.
NDLEA disclosed that Basil was previously convicted in 2023 for drug trafficking involving methamphetamine also destined for the UK, but allegedly returned to the illicit trade after his release.
The agency reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and warned that those involved in the production, concealment, and exportation of illicit drugs would be brought to justice.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive emphasized that the agency remains vigilant and will continue to strengthen surveillance at Nigeria’s airports, seaports, and borders to prevent drugs from leaving the country.
