Mrs. Chioma Nweze, the widow of late journalist Alphonsus Nweze, has raised alarm over what she described as the heartless and unlawful sale of her late husband’s family land just three days after his burial.
Alphonsus Nweze, a former correspondent with Champion Newspapers and a contributor to Apex News, was buried on November 14, 2025, following his sudden death in a fatal accident. According to the widow, the late journalist’s younger brothers allegedly sold his land for ₦12 million without her knowledge or consent.
Speaking during a condolence visit by members of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Anambra State, Mrs. Nweze said the action of her in-laws has worsened the emotional trauma her family is already facing.
“My husband has not even rested in the grave, and they rushed to sell his land. They didn’t consult me, and they didn’t consider the welfare of his children,” she lamented.
The Correspondents’ Chapel condemned the development and offered financial support to the widow and her children, describing the situation as “deeply unfortunate.”
While the widow insists that the land sale was carried out secretly, there has been no official response from the accused brothers as of the time of filing this report.
Additionally, there is no record yet of any legal action or court intervention regarding the disputed property.
The matter continues to generate concern among journalists and rights advocates, who are calling for a transparent investigation to protect the rights of the deceased’s immediate family.
