Tinubu-Era Tax Reform Takes Shape as NRS Unveils New Brand Identity
By Erewunmi Peace
Nigeria’s tax reform agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is gaining momentum with the unveiling of a new brand identity for the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), formerly known as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The rebranding follows the signing of the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act, 2025, which officially replaces FIRS with NRS as part of sweeping reforms aimed at modernising the country’s tax administration system.
The new structure is expected to take full effect from January 1, 2026.
At a launch event held in Abuja, the NRS introduced its new logo and visual identity, signalling a fresh phase in Nigeria’s revenue collection strategy.
According to officials, the transformation goes beyond a name change and represents a broader commitment to efficiency, transparency, and improved service delivery.
The Tinubu administration has described the reform as critical to strengthening government revenue, reducing tax leakages, and aligning Nigeria’s tax system with global best practices. Authorities also say the NRS will leverage digital tools and institutional restructuring to enhance compliance and taxpayer engagement.
Economic analysts note that the rebranding reflects the government’s determination to reposition revenue generation as a cornerstone of national development, especially amid ongoing fiscal pressures.
With the unveiling of the new identity, the Nigeria Revenue Service is expected to play a central role in the implementation of upcoming tax policies under the Tinubu administration.
