Ooni Urges Yoruba in Diaspora to Uphold Unity, Cultural Pride for Collective Progress

By Erewunmi Peace

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has called on Yoruba people across the world to remain united and continue upholding the values, traditions, and cultural pride that define their shared heritage.

The monarch made the call during the Isokan Festival 2025 held in Ghana, where he was represented by his spokesperson, Otunba Moses Olafare. The event brought together prominent Yoruba descendants from various parts of the world to celebrate unity and cultural identity.

Speaking at the event, the Ooni emphasized that unity among Yoruba sons and daughters—both at home and abroad—remains vital for collective progress and global recognition. He noted that despite geographical separation, the Yoruba nation shares deep historical and ancestral bonds that must be preserved for future generations.

“The Yoruba race is known for excellence, integrity, and communal strength. No matter where we find ourselves, we must carry our culture with pride and support one another,” the monarch was quoted as saying.

The Ooni’s message forms part of his ongoing effort to reconnect Yoruba descendants in the diaspora and promote initiatives that strengthen social and cultural cohesion within the Oduduwa lineage.

The festival, which featured traditional performances, cultural exhibitions, and discussions on Yoruba heritage, also highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy in promoting peace, understanding, and development among African communities globally.
