FG Raises Alarm Over Plot by Extremists to Divide Christians and Muslims in Nigeria

The Federal Government has warned of an alleged plot by extremist groups to incite tension and create divisions between Christians and Muslims across the country.
According to reports, government authorities raised the alarm after intelligence suggested that certain groups were spreading false narratives and propaganda designed to provoke religious conflict and weaken national unity.
In a statement attributed to officials from the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, the government urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and not fall for messages or campaigns that promote hatred along religious lines.
“These divisive elements are exploiting social media and misinformation to pit one faith against another,” the ministry reportedly said, emphasizing that both Christians and Muslims must resist such attempts and uphold peace.
The statement reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens, irrespective of religious or ethnic background. It also called on religious leaders to use their influence to promote tolerance, unity, and mutual respect.
Security analysts have commended the move, saying it highlights the need for early warning systems and responsible media reporting to prevent violent extremism.
This latest warning comes amid renewed efforts by the government to strengthen interfaith relations and counter extremist propaganda nationwide.
