NCAA Approves Resumption of Commercial Flights at Ibadan Airport

By Erewunmi Peace

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has approved the resumption of scheduled commercial flight operations at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, bringing an end to years of limited aviation activities at the facility.

The approval was granted through a provisional interim operational permit, following the completion of key infrastructure upgrades and a successful safety assessment of the airport. The development allows airlines to begin commercial operations while further regulatory requirements are being finalized.

The resumption of flights follows major improvements at the airport, including runway expansion, upgraded airfield lighting, enhanced safety equipment, and improved passenger facilities. These upgrades were carried out through collaborative efforts involving the Oyo State Government and relevant aviation authorities.

With the approval, Ibadan Airport is expected to improve air connectivity for Oyo State and surrounding regions, reduce travel time to and from the Southwest, and stimulate economic activities such as tourism, trade, and investment.

The NCAA emphasized that commercial operations will be closely monitored to ensure strict compliance with aviation safety standards as airlines resume services at the airport.

The reopening of the airport to commercial flights marks a significant milestone in Oyo State’s transportation development and is expected to ease air travel for residents and business travelers alike.
