NFSS Debunks Viral Claim of 30,000 Recruitment Nationwide

By Erewunmi Peace

The Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) has dismissed reports circulating online that it is recruiting 30,000 operatives across the country, describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, the NFSS clarified that it is not currently conducting any nationwide recruitment exercise, warning Nigerians to ignore fake adverts and websites requesting applications or payments.

The statement reads in part:

“The attention of the Nigeria Forest Security Service has been drawn to a fake publication alleging that the Service is recruiting 30,000 personnel. We wish to categorically state that this information is false and did not originate from the NFSS.”

The agency explained that while training and deployment of forest security operatives are ongoing in some states — including Bauchi, where 2,000 recruits were recently approved — there is no central or federal-level recruitment of 30,000 officers as claimed.

NFSS urged the public to verify all official announcements through its verified communication channels and the Federal Ministry of Environment before engaging with any recruitment adverts.

Security experts have also cautioned Nigerians to be vigilant and avoid fraudulent job offers shared via social media, noting that cybercriminals often exploit such fake recruitment drives to defraud unsuspecting job seekers.

The NFSS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s forest reserves, combating illegal logging, and supporting national security efforts in collaboration with other paramilitary agencies.
