Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has arrived in Johannesburg to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit. The summit, taking place from 22–23 November, brings together world leaders to discuss global economic challenges, security concerns, and sustainable development.
Vice President Shettima, who touched down at the OR Tambo International Airport early Saturday, was received by top Nigerian government officials, including Minister of Finance Wale Edun, senior diplomats, and defence representatives.
President Tinubu remained in Nigeria to receive critical security briefings in light of recent national security events. Vice President Shettima is therefore leading Nigeria’s delegation at the global forum.
At the summit, Shettima is expected to:

This year’s G20, hosted for the first time on African soil, is themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.” Discussions will cover:
Financing for development in emerging economies
Climate change and energy transition
Debt relief and global financial stability
Food security and equitable access to resources
Nigeria’s participation is viewed as critical for:
Securing international investment
Expanding development partnerships
Strengthening diplomatic ties with major global economies
Positioning the country as a key voice for Africa in global decision-making
Vice President Shettima will take part in the summit’s general sessions and hold bilateral meetings with leaders from partner nations.
