Wike-Led PDP Faction Dissolves 14 State Excos, Sets Date for Congresses
By Erewunmi Peace
The Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the dissolution of 14 State Executive Committees and released a schedule for fresh state congresses ahead of the 2026 elections.
The decision was taken by the faction’s National Working Caretaker Committee (NWC), led by Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, during a meeting in Abuja. The dissolved states include Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano, and Lagos.
The faction insists that it represents the legitimate leadership of the PDP and challenged rival groups, particularly the Turaki-led faction, to provide evidence of recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
As part of the resolutions, the Wike-led group announced that state congresses will commence on January 9, 2026, followed by a national convention once the state congresses are completed.
The move is part of ongoing efforts by the faction to resolve internal leadership disputes and consolidate party structures ahead of upcoming elections, amid a backdrop of contested claims over the PDP’s national leadership.
