Kebbi Governor Welcomes Rescued Schoolgirls, Debunks Ransom Claims

The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has officially welcomed the 24 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, following their safe release on 25 November 2025.
Speaking after receiving the rescued pupils, Governor Idris emphasized that no ransom was paid for their release, dismissing circulating claims suggesting otherwise. He thanked security agencies for their swift and coordinated response, which led to the peaceful recovery of the students.
“The safety of our children is paramount,” Governor Idris said. “I can confirm that the rescued girls are now in good health and in safe custody. I commend the efforts of our security personnel for ensuring that they were returned unharmed.”
The release comes after a coordinated security operation involving the military, intelligence services, and other security agencies, highlighting the government’s commitment to protecting citizens from abduction and insurgent activities.
The Presidency, led by President Bola Tinubu, also welcomed the freed girls, commending the state government and security agencies for the successful operation. The rescued students are expected to be reunited with their families shortly.
