President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday received a high-level security briefing from the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to address the recent surge in insecurity across the country.
The closed-door meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, focused on the rising cases of abductions and broader national security threats. According to a short statement from the Presidency, the briefing centered on current security challenges and government efforts to restore stability.
Following the meeting, the Federal Government announced a series of emergency security measures to curb the growing threat of kidnappings, especially involving schoolchildren.
The government confirmed the activation of a joint security task force drawn from the military, police, DSS, and other agencies. The task force has been mandated to track and rescue abducted victims and intensify operations in high-risk areas.
In response to growing threats around educational institutions, the Ministry of Education ordered the temporary closure of several Federal Unity Colleges while security agencies work to stabilize the affected regions.
The Minister of Information reiterated that the government has placed the nation’s security architecture on its highest level of alert, with all agencies instructed to coordinate more aggressively in counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations.
While details of the DSS briefing were not disclosed publicly, officials emphasized that the government is taking “all necessary steps” to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent further attacks.
The presidency is expected to provide additional updates as new developments emerge.
