The Nigerian Army has confirmed that four people lost their lives while 32 others sustained injuries following a bomb explosion at a mosque located within Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening during the Maghrib prayer, when worshippers had gathered at the mosque. The explosion caused panic in the busy market area, prompting an immediate security response.

Confirmation of the attack was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK). The statement was signed by the task force’s Media Information Officer, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba.

According to the Army, those injured in the blast were swiftly evacuated to nearby medical facilities, where they are currently receiving treatment. Security personnel were also deployed to secure the area and prevent further incidents.

While investigations into the exact cause of the explosion are ongoing, authorities said efforts have been intensified to track those responsible and strengthen security around public and religious locations across Maiduguri.

The attack has been condemned by residents and security officials, who reiterated the commitment of the military and other security agencies to protect civilians and maintain peace in the North-East region.
