Court Orders Temporary Forfeiture of 57 Properties Linked to Former AGF Malami

By Erewunmi Peace

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the temporary forfeiture of 57 properties allegedly linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN.

The interim forfeiture order was granted by Justice Emeka Nwite following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The court directed that the properties, suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, be temporarily seized by the Federal Government.

The assets reportedly include high-value landed properties across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and Kaduna States.

The court also instructed that the order be published in a national newspaper and gave any interested party 14 days to show cause why the forfeiture should not be made permanent.

This legal action is part of an ongoing N8.7 billion money laundering case involving Malami, his wife, and his son. The EFCC stated that the properties were acquired through proceeds linked to unlawful activities.

The court emphasized that the interim forfeiture does not prevent the owners from contesting the order within the stipulated period.
