NIS Decries Killing of Personnel at Kebbi Border, Calls for Reinforced Security

By Erewunmi Peace

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has condemned the killing of three of its officers following an attack on the Bakin Ruwa Checkpoint in Kebbi State. The officers, part of the Tuga Border Patrol Formation, were ambushed by unidentified gunmen late Thursday night, November 27, 2025.

In a statement, the NIS described the officers as gallant personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. The service extended condolences to the families of the deceased and assured Nigerians that every measure is being taken to strengthen security at the border.

The attack reportedly also led to the destruction of operational facilities and property at the checkpoint. NIS leadership has confirmed that reinforcements have been deployed, patrols intensified, and collaboration with other security agencies is ongoing to secure the area and prevent future attacks.

The Comptroller General of Immigration, speaking through a spokesperson, emphasized that the service remains committed to protecting Nigeria’s borders and ensuring the safety of its officers and citizens. The attackers are yet to be identified, though preliminary reports suggest the involvement of an armed group known locally as Lakurawa.

This incident highlights the persistent security challenges along Nigeria’s northern borders, reinforcing calls for increased vigilance, intelligence-led operations, and community cooperation to prevent further loss of lives.
