By Erewunmi Peace

Nine suspected bandits were killed during a heavy gun battle with Nigerian military troops in Bakaji and Unguwar Garma communities in the Goron Dutse area of Shanono Local Government, Kano State.

The clash occurred late at night when armed bandits attacked the communities, prompting security forces to engage them. Tragically, one vigilante member also lost his life during the confrontation.

According to Yahya Bagobiri, Chairman of the Shanono/Bagwai Community Security Forum, the bandits returned around 5 a.m. to retrieve the bodies of their dead members, taking advantage of the early morning hours.

In addition to fatalities, the bandits abducted six persons and stole about 40 cows during the chaos. Security officials confirmed ongoing investigations and assured the public that measures are being strengthened to prevent further attacks.

This incident highlights the challenges communities face in the fight against banditry and insecurity in northern Nigeria, despite efforts by security agencies.
