Kidnapped Kaduna Anglican Priest Dies in Captivity — Church Confirms

Edwin Achi, the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church in Ungwan Maijero (Chikun LGA, Kaduna State), has died while being held by kidnappers, the Anglican Diocese of Kaduna announced on Wednesday.
The priest was abducted on 28 October 2025, when armed men stormed his residence in Nissi community, near the Kaduna Refinery — the same night his wife and daughter were also taken.
In a statement, the Diocese mourned Achi’s death as “a painful loss to the entire diocese, the clergy, the church family, and all who were blessed by his ministry.”
The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦600 million for their release.
As a mark of respect, the Diocese has cancelled its planned “Stand Up for Jesus 2025” event.
Church authorities and members continue to plead for the safe release of Achi’s wife and daughter, still held captive.
