Civil Society Group Drags Mike Ozekhome, Others Before LPDC Over Alleged Misconduct
By Erewunmi Peace
A civil society organization, Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA), has petitioned the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) against Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mike Ozekhome and others over alleged professional misconduct.
The petition arises from claims that Ozekhome and his associates attempted to acquire a London property using forged identity documents and fraudulent claims. This follows a UK tribunal ruling on September 11, 2025, which described the property transfer as “built on forgery and deception” and struck out Ozekhome’s ownership claims.
HEDA’s action seeks to hold the lawyer accountable under Nigerian legal ethics, urging LPDC to investigate the allegations and impose appropriate sanctions if wrongdoing is confirmed. The matter has also drawn attention from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Anti-Corruption Committee, which supports full compliance with ethical and legal standards.
As of now, the LPDC has not publicly announced any verdict or formal action against Ozekhome. Legal analysts note that the proceedings are ongoing and underscore the importance of separating foreign court rulings from professional disciplinary measures in Nigeria.
The case has sparked nationwide discussions on legal accountability, ethics, and the responsibilities of senior legal practitioners, highlighting the critical role of civil society in monitoring professional conduct.
