Tinubu Vows to Crush Bandits, Restore Peace in Northern Nigeria

By Erewunmi Peace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending banditry and restoring lasting peace across Northern Nigeria.

Speaking at the 25th Anniversary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in Kaduna—where he was represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari—the President said the government will “act with urgency and firmness” to eliminate criminal groups terrorising communities in the region.

Tinubu acknowledged that his administration inherited “deeply layered and sophisticated” security challenges but vowed that “no part of Nigeria will be allowed to bleed in silence.”

The President also linked lasting peace to economic revival in the North, citing upcoming projects such as the Kolmani oil development and major infrastructure works including the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Superhighway. He said these investments would boost jobs, strengthen security, and improve regional stability.

Tinubu further assured the region that his administration will continue to equip and support the armed forces, stressing that the government is committed to giving the military all necessary resources to “crush terrorists, bandits and all violent groups undermining the nation’s security.”

The vow comes as insecurity—particularly in the North-West and North-Central—continues to disrupt farming, education, transportation, and economic activities.

The President urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders in the North to support ongoing security reforms and work with government agencies in restoring peace.

As of press time, the Presidency has not announced any new military operations, but officials say the government is finalising additional security strategies.
