Alleged Coup: Army Reportedly Raids Former Governor’s Abuja Residence, Arrests Brother

By Erewunmi Peace

Security tension heightened in Abuja on Monday following reports that operatives of the Nigerian Army and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) allegedly raided the residence of a former southern governor as part of investigations into a suspected coup plot.

According to reports published by SaharaReporters, the raid took place at the Maitama residence of former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, with his younger brother, identified as Paga Sylva, allegedly taken into custody for questioning.

While the nature of the investigation remains unclear, sources quoted by the publication claimed the operation was linked to a broader probe into the alleged involvement of some retired and serving military officers in a coup plot.

However, checks by Ajapa Reporter on Tuesday revealed that no official confirmation has been issued by either the Nigerian Army or the Defence Headquarters concerning the alleged raid or arrest.

In an earlier statement this week, the Armed Forces of Nigeria described reports of an alleged coup plot as “false and mischievous,” urging the public to disregard unfounded rumours capable of creating tension in the country.

Efforts to reach military spokespersons for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.

The alleged development has generated widespread discussion across social media, with many Nigerians calling for transparency and calm as security agencies investigate the matter.

This story remains developing. Ajapa Reporter will continue to monitor and update this report as more verified information becomes available.
