PANDEF Calls on Navy to Apologise to Wike Over Officer Confrontation

By Erewunmi Peace

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has called on the Nigerian Navy to issue an unreserved apology to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike following a recent confrontation involving a naval officer.

PANDEF’s National Chairman, Ambassador Boladei Igali, described the naval officer’s conduct as disrespectful and said it undermined both Minister Wike’s authority and the dignity of the Presidency. He also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order a full investigation into the incident to ensure accountability.

According to PANDEF, the junior naval officer, Lt. A.M. Yerima, may have been acting under orders from a retired service chief, highlighting concerns over misuse of military personnel in civilian matters. The forum stressed that such actions could damage civil-military relations and the respect owed to public office holders.

PANDEF’s statement calls for swift corrective measures, emphasizing that respect for public officials and adherence to protocol are essential for national cohesion and good governance.
